How to Fish FAQ
How to Fish FAQ answers the launch-week blockers with Patch 1.0.11 in force: hold-once selling, 1–4 store text versus 8-player lobbies, Game Name saves, Steam Deck and GeForce NOW, consoles without a date, streaming allowed, and no free keys. Each answer is a player task, not a studio diary. Official FAQ lines come from dazed.games; patch lines come from Steam Community Announcements; Bean-after-lock notes come from community reports after 1.0.5.
Where the answers come from
dazed.games states streaming is allowed, keys are not, consoles and Mac have no date, and Discord is the bug desk. Steam news is the patch clock. Steam achievements are the 28 official names. Reddit notes after 1.0.5 are the Bean-chain warning, labelled as community on the field-terms page. If a patch lands after 1.0.11, the patch log is the first peg to update, not this FAQ paragraph.
If your question is a bait pairing, use the creature matching board. If it is a boss trophy chain, use the boss board. If it is Deck or spec, use platforms. This FAQ only answers the launch-week blockers that kept showing up in official notes and the first-week community: selling, lobby size, Game Name saves, keys, streaming, Bean after the lock, and consoles without a date.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to hold an item before selling?
Yes, as of Patch 1.0.11. Pick the item up once. A creature dumped straight onto a sell prompt does not count. Keep trophy baits that later bosses need — Tuna, Fish Bucket, and Bowhead Whale — in hand until the next peg is hung. The hold is why a first-hour Spider Crab left on the dock is not auto-cash.
Is it 4 players or 8?
The Steam store still says 1–4 players. Patch 1.0.4 allows 8-player lobbies. Patch 1.0.5 adds private invite-only rooms and stops griefers from instantly ending other players’ runs. Use the patch, not the blurb, when you host. Session type changes require a restart.
What is a Game Name save?
Launch-week grief used fake servers named Game Name to smash saves. Patch 1.0.6 checks save files before load and no longer writes saves on crash. Save, Main Menu, and Quit still save, with one-minute autosave. Patch 1.0.11 always checks for corruption and keeps backups. If a lobby looks wrong, quit to menu and let the check run.
Steam Deck, GeForce NOW, consoles?
Patch 1.0.11 states full Steam Deck Verified and GeForce NOW playability. Steam still lists Windows only for native installs. The official FAQ says consoles and Mac are coming and does not know when. PlayStation glyphs were fixed in 1.0.8. Minimum PC is Windows 10+ 64-bit, i5-5257U or Ryzen 3 1200, 8 GB RAM, GTX 1050 or RX 460, 1 GB storage.
Can I stream? Can I get a key?
Dazed Games explicitly allows streaming, recording, and monetizing How to Fish gameplay. The same FAQ says the studio is not handing out free Steam keys to curators, streamers, or YouTube channels. Bug reports and suggestions go to the official Discord. This wiki cannot reset accounts or grant keys.
Does Bean still skip islands?
Bean is finish the game within 1 hour. Community reports after Patch 1.0.5 say the locked-island travel fix means Bean must follow the normal unlock chain rather than a Lighthouse-to-Volcano skip. Easy difficulty from 1.0.9 cuts creature health 25% and damage 50% if the hour is tight. Handyman is a different achievement: final boss with bare hands, fixed in 1.0.4.
